STRIKE VIOLENCE
INCIDENTS IN AMERICA. RIOTS IN THE SOUTH. TROOPS SUMMONED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 28, 10.20 a.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 27. A message from Port Louis states that there is a recrudescence of the strikes at the sugar mills. The rioters have moved into the southern districts, setting fire to the eanefields and Indian huts, and terrorising the factory hands, who have quit work. Several rioters have been killed in clashes with the police.. The planters have requested the Government to take prompt and sterner measures. Troops are standing by. A Schenectady message states that the clothes were stripped from two women strike-breakers when they were attempting to pass the picket lines surrounding a knitting factory, and they wore compelled to walk several blocks unclothed while the strikers pelted thorn with tomatoes.
