CAR SOMERSAULTS.
PLUNGE OVER BANK. ACCIDENT NEAR WOODVTLLE. Rendered unconscious in an accident which occurred on the main highway betwc'/i Dannevirke and Woodville shortly after 9 o’clock last; evening, when he was returning to Palmerston North front Napier, Mr W. Gilmore Ross, of Featherston Street, _ had a nairow escape from serious injury. Mr Ross, who was driving a late model sedan, recovered consciousness to find that it had plunged over a bank, and was upside down. Unable to open the door, he sounded the horn until he attracted the attention of Mr Foster, of Dannevirke, who was passing. Mr Ross, shaken and bruised, was extricated and brought to his home in Palmerston North by another motorist proceeding to this centre. Though the night was clear, Mr Ross to-day said he could advance no reason for the accident, except that low banks of fog were drifting across the road.
The turret top of the car was badly battered and probably saved the driver from serious injury, but a side window was broken, and he received a cut on the nose, besides extensive bruises to the shoulder and chest.
