EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” JULY 24. 1907. The Palmerston North retailors had decided to strongly oppose the Bank and Public Holidays Bill, which had been before Parliament. There bad been 455 subscribers attached to the Palmerston North telephone exchange. Anti-Japanese rioting bad been increasing in America. Fires bad been started and four people killed in a Japanese quarter in San Francisco. There had been a growing opinion at the Racing Conference that the double totalisator should be abolished. The Palmerston North Bowling Club bad resolved to take the necessary steps to have a New Zealand Bowling Association formed to conduct tournaments and draft rules for same.
