ROYAL GARDEN PARTY

CONVENTION DEFIED. LOUNGE SUITS WORN. PREVALENCE OF SMOKING. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 23, 12.55 p.m. LONDON, July 22.

More men than ever defied convention at the Royal Garden Party to-day at Buckingham Palace by wearing lounge suits and felt hats. A big proportion of the men and women on the main lawns were smoking, which would have been frowned on a few years ago. The Duchess of Kent followed the fashion, lighting a cigarette while at tea with Tneir Majesties the King and Queen and other members of the Royal Family in a special tent.
