SLUGGISH RIVER BOARD.
RATE STRUCK. The bi-monthly meeting of the Sluggish River Drainage Board was held yesterday. Those present were Messrs F. J. Foster (in the chair), M. J. Ryan, A. N. Morcom and E. C. Print.
The chairman reported that he and Mr Ryan had waited on the actingMinister of Labour (Hon. P. C. Webb) and secured an additional subsidy of 5s for the thirteen men at present employed by the board. It was decided to strike the same general rate as last year. The report of the overseer (Mr W. Locke) was received, as under: “Since the last meeting we have finished improving Cooper and Greemvay’s drains. One day was worked taking out slips in the Taikorca drain, two days on widoning Johnston’s drain, and also a start- was made deepening and widening Saunders’s drain on July 14; nine chains have been completed. I also inspected Short’s drain. Walsh’s drain has been passed.” Accounts totalling £lO9 7s 6d were passed for payment.
