RESIDENTS HONOURED.

FUNCTION AT TE AWA

After a residence of thirty years or more at To Awa, Mr and Mrs W. IL Rutherford have lately made their home in Denbigh Square. Feilding, and to mark the esteem in which they are held by the To Awa residents a surprise party journeyed to their new homo recently when all spent a jolly evening. Dancing and games were enjoyed in the billiard room. After a supper served in the dining-room, which had been arranged in autumn colourings, Mr W. M. Stewart, on behalf of tho gathering, eulogised the many fine qualities of their host and hostess as settlers. Their home at To Awa. was always a rendezvous for the people of the district, where a hearty welcome was always assured. They and their daughters were always to the , fore in any matters appertaining to the welfare of the neighbourhood, and ho sincerely trusted that they would have many happy years of retirement in their new home. As a tangible expression of their feeling towards Mr and Mrs Rutherford and family he asked their acceptance on behalf of the residents of a handsome Hammcrsley tea set; to Miss Noll Rutherford Mr Stewart presented a pastel green reading lamp, and Miss Is-iurio Rutherford was the recipient of a dainty bedroom clock. Mr Rutherford acknowledged the kind sentiments and gifts of the guests. Mm Rutherford was gowned in black silk marocain with selfstriped corsage. Miss L. Rutherford wore Coronation blue velvet and Miss N. Rutherford chose palo green cloque; Mrs A. Waldin wore a soft black satin frock with a coat of hand-painted black lacquered satin. These present included Mr and Mrs A. Wald in, Mr and Mi s W. M. Stewart, Mr and Mrs W. Williams, Mr T Williams, Miss G. Williams, Mr A. Williams Mr and Mrs C. Gore. Messrs V.; and G. J. Gore, Mr W.
