Miss M. E. Buchanan, secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, has been granted leave of absence to visit India. She left Wellington by the Maunganui to-day for Sydney, where she will board the Cathay on August 5 en route to India.

Miss Joy Summered, of Palmerston North, spent a few days at her home in Wanganui, and returned yesterday. Mrs O. Jackson, of Bunnythorpe, is visiting Levin and Foxton. Miss G. Jones is a Wanganui visitor to Palmerston North and is staying with her sister, Mrs D. Robinson. She leaves next month with another sister, Mrs J. M. Russell, of Wanganui, on an Island cruise.

A party consisting of Mrs R. Simpson and Miss Simpson, Fitzherbert Avenue, Palmerston North, Mrs A. Cameron, Miss Cameron, Turakina, and Miss M. Cyprian-Lee, Feilding, are touring the Taranaki province.

Best wishes were extended to Miss M. Currie, whose marriage to Mr D. Plank takes place next month, by St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild, yesterday.

Mrs S. F. Prosser, of Palmerston North, is spending a holiday in Thames, where she is staying with her parents, Mr and Mi's A.. J. Tregoweth. In recognition ot a long period of service to the Wanganui Returned Soldiers’ Association, particularly in regard to Poppy Day, Miss M. A. Newcoinbe, J.P., Wanganui, has been made an honorary life member of the association, and was presented with the gold badge of membership at the quarterly meeting this week.
