CHEAPER RACING.

SOUTHLAND SUGGESTION.

Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, July 22.

The need for providing cheaper racing for the public by the installation of a fiveehillin"- totalisator and reducing gate clmrs-e? was emphasised by the president of the Southland Racing Club, Mr W. T. Hazlett, at, the annual meeting of the club to-night. , . Mr Hazlett suggested that racing clubs should get together with the object of providing the public with cheaper racing At present racing was too dear fov the public and he believed that if it were cheaper more would attend race meetings. Ho thought the time bad come for the installation of the five-shilling totalisator and lower charges for admission, but they would have to get the Government to help. If tho Government and racing clubs could get together and do something the Government would probably get more out of tho clubs.
