BOWLING
DOMINION ASSOCIATION. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. Minutes of the annual meeting of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association, which was held earlier in the month, show that amendments had been suggested to the consitution of the association and to the laws or the game by some centres though not all. . . The decision of the council was that tlic centres which had not suggested amendments be circularised, inviting them to send in suggestions not later than November 30. The centres are then to be informed of the proposed amendments, which are to be considered at the next annual meeting ot. the council. , Another decision of the council, not previously published, was that all test bowls be called in, in rota U ol b tested by Mr W. A. Scott, The 1932 stamps, or those of subsequent years, are to be the only ones recognised by the association. The official bowl tester for the year is to Be the tester ox the Dunedin Bowling Centre. The council, having been requested to give a ruling as to what constitutes a first-year player, recommended centres not to include in that categoiy any bowler who has played before on any greens, including crown greens. The president (Mr W. Connor) and the Dunedin members of the council were appointed the executive f° r the year, and it was also decided that the levy be the same as before. The team to represent New Zea and in the British Empire Games will be chosen from those who are going from this country to compete in the Australian bowling carnival at Sydney from January 17 to February 2. Entries are to be endorsed by the New Zealand CounciJ. The selection of players to represent New Zealand in the British Empire Games will be made by members of the council who are competing at the carnival, with power to add others. It was decided that, in the event of no members of the council going to Australia, the council executive shall appoint four persons from the applicants to act as a selection committee. The annual tournament of the association will be held in Dunedin, commencing on January 10, 1938. Dr. J. D. Hanning was appointed secretary at a salary of £2OO, thus restoring the ten per cent, reduction made some years ago. The honorarium of the treasurer, Mr H. Rowley, was fixed at the figure ruling last year, £lO 10s.
In regard to the tournament committee it was decided that the committee be formed of the executive (the president and the Dunedin members of the council) and such other members of the executive of the Dunedin Centre as the executive appoints. The Christchurch Centre submitted the following remit, which was carried: That all approved expenses of entertainment in connection with the annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association each year shall be a direct charge on the tournament funds of the' association. INTERNATIONAL BOARD. Mr H. B. Oakey (Christchurch) asked if a reply had been received from the International Bowling Board to the association’s enquiry as to associate membership. Mr S. M. Stone (Wellington) said he did not know of any reply, but quoted an extract from the minutes of the board, dated July 11, 1936, dealing with the matter. Mr Oakey drew attention to the inadequate representation of New Zealand and other Dominions on the board. It was agreed that nothing could be done in the matter. In regard to the suggested conference in Australia as to the laws of the game, it was resoived that the association be represented by two representatives to be selected by the from those going to Australia. Several members of the council were definitely of the opinion that the amount of entertaining to be done during the association tournament was excessive, difficult to control properly, and was becoming unwieldly. A motion to delete the Sunday entertainment was carried unanimously. CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. The question of the champion of championships contest for the whole of New Zealand was mentioned, but it was stated that the matter had been previously discussed and was considered impracticable. A cordial vote of thanks was •accorded the outgoing executive for the conscientious manner in which their work had been done. Mr Stone was especially thanked for his assistance at the annual meeting. At the termination of the .business Mr F. A. Hosking, vice-president, Auckland, warmly congratulated Mr Connor on his appointment as president, also on the way in which he had conducted the business and assured him of the support of all the councillors. Mr Hosking’s tribute was endorsed by all members ivith applause. Mr Connor thanked Mr Hosking for his kind remarks and congratulated him on his appointment as vice-presi-dent.
