COUNCIL OF WOMEN.

At the monthly meeting of the National Council of Women, held yesterday. Mrs H. Paterson presided. The president expressed her pleasure that Miss McKenny’s ability had been recognised in her appointment as a member of the board of inquiry in connection with the Napier Hospital. Regret was expressed at the passing of Miss M. Moore, members standing a moment in silence as a mark of respect. It was mentioned that there were a. number of women’s organisations in Palmerston North which were not affiliated with the National Council. Various members undertook to approach these organisations with a view to getting them to link up. The chief business for the afternoon was the consideration of the remit which Dr. Doris Gordon had submitted at her meeting in June in connection with septic abortion. After a discussion it was unanimously decided tha.t the motion be passed on to the Dominion executive for consideration at the National Council of Women’s conference to be held in September in Auckland.

Pleasure was expressed that a branch of the National Council had been formed in Wanganui, with Miss Tizard (principal of tho Girls’ College) as president.
