GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI. QUADROON GOES WELL.
(By “Spectator.”) Conditions were perfect, for galloping at, the Awapuni track this morning, the course being in splendid, order. Gallopers had the nso of tho track next, the rails. Quadroon (Leach) and Old Surrey (Broughton) were responsible for one ot the best, gallope. Cutting out the first Iwo furlongs 'in 25sec, four in 53sec, and five in 1.7, they ran seven furlongs m 1.34, finishing on terms. Both were doing it. well at the finish. . Wagner (R. Stratton), was sent round at three-quarter pace, being speeded up to run the last three furlongs in 43sec. Tangled and Forest Glow were sent over a couple of fences and then galloped halt a mile, Foro6t Glow being m front, and going strongly at tho finish. He looks %ciy well again. , . , t Moving very nicely, Catalogue (A, McDonald) left three furlongs behind smaitty in 39sec. _ ' T , Sir Mount, Bold Bruce, Free Star Peter Piper. Alby and tho Nightmorch colt, from G. W. Now’s string were given light exercise on the No. 2 grass. Dawning Light, after being jogged round, ran four furlongs in 54 4-sscc. . , With Dunmanway for a companion, tho Pombal—Episode colt was sprinted two lurlongs up the straight. The latter fi™ 6 .')' ed in front and wanted to go on with it. Florence Mill* headed Screen Lord over two furlongs in 25 l-ssec. Sporting Gift (Broughton) going very imoothly. ran half a mile in 54sec after a slow start, covering the last three furlongs in 39sec. , , Tidewaiter easily had the measure ot Peter Piper at the end of the seven turlongs run in 1.36. , , , , Herangi (Stewart) and lailhght (B ro, -'K‘'ton) covered seven furlongs in 1.35, the hrot four taking 55sec. Tailhght, on the outside finished in front. „ , Peach King, by Peach Brandy from Hallovonia, has returned to the track. Lrns rising two-ycar-old ricked a joint some time ago, but lias now recovered. Five ycai's old, Conveyor, a gelding, by Tractor out of Prima Lux, a full sistor to Luna Lux, has been purchased by Mr E L Barnes, of Palmerston North, and is now in Mrs A. W. McDonald's stable s.t Awapuni, Conveyor, though he had only been in work for a fortnight, ran third to Aube and Cletrac in the Hunters’ flat race at Hastings yesterday. Riding Engagements. . INCREASE IN STAKES. Per Presß Association. ASHBURTON, July 20. . The Ashburton County Racing Club has allotted £I3OO for its spring meeting, an increase of £2OO on last year.
