TEACHERS’ CONFERENCE.

Miss C. M. Wilson presidid over a recent meeting of the Pahiatua-Bush branch of the Now Zealand Educational Institute. Tho report, of the delegate (Mr A. 1,. P. Kennedy) lo the annual meeting was read, it. being decided to forward a letter of thanks to the delegate, who has left the district. Other business included the consideration of a circular from the New Zealand Educational Institute regarding the extension of the Nelson system by the proposed introduction of daily religious exercises into echools. Tho discussion pointed to the fact that members supported the Nelson system, but regretted that it had not been given its full scope. The majority of teachers were keen adherents of tho Church, many being actually engaged in Church work. Opposition to the extension of the Nelson system was taken partly in the hope that this •ystem ns it stands he: (1) Taken more regularly and with more preparation than is now being done in some areas; (2) that it. he introducer! in schools in which it cions not now oporate. The motion was put to the meeting:— "That, tho members of the Pahiaiua-Bueh branch abide by the policy of tho New Zealand Educational Institute in repard to the extension of religions exorcises m schools.” A vote was taken by a show of hands, the result being unanimously in favour of the motion.
