ARTIFICIAL BARRIERS.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
CANBERRA, July 15. Speaking at a luncheon given by the Commonwealth Government to the New Zealand Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple), the ActingPrime Minister, Dr. Earle Page, said that within a comparatively few months flying-boats would bring Sydney closer by air to Auckland than Canberra was to Sydney. Dr. Page said he would like to see closer collaboration between the Australian and New Zealand Governments in order to escape the traditional idea that the only place uhere Australian and New Zealand delegates might meet for full-dress discussions was London. Mr Semple, acknowledging the welcome, said the New Zeahf/d Government was ready to meet representatives of the Commonwealth to discuss trade difficulties. He emphasised that artificial barriers against satisfactory trade between the two Dominions should be broken down.
