PIG GRADING SYSTEM.

IMPROVEMENT SUPPORTED.. HAMILTON, June 7. An improvement in the system of grading pigs in the interests of both the local and the export trade was almost unanimously supported at a meeting of the Waikato sub-provin-cial executive of the Farmers’ Union. Practically every member present was emphatic that a better grading system was essential to the successful development of the pig industry. The following resolutions were carried :—‘That an improved standard of grading, at the outset to apply to baconer pigs only, is essential to the continued successful development of our export and local trade; that in our opinion the payment of an adequate premium for the quality desired offers the only effective means to achieve this objective; as the industry as a whole would benefit by tbe improvement gained we consider that the cost of the premium should be found by' a levy over all pigs slaughtered, and that a collection and distribution of such levy in the manner described should become tho responsibility of the Department of Agriculture.” .
