ECLIPSE EXPEDITION.
ADVENTURES ON ISLAND. SYDNEY, June 3. A message from the leader of the New Zealand solar eclipse expedition, Mr C. W. B. Micliie, at Canton Island, states: “Last evening the officers of H.M.S. Wellington entertained, the officers of the Ovocet and members of the American and New Zealand expeditions. The quarter deck was dressed for the occasion, which furnished an opportunity to meet and exchange views. “The Coronagraph, with covers to break the wind, and the darkroom are completed. Mr I. L. Thomsen, of the Dominion Observatory. Wellington, is making meteorological observations hourly. These show only a few degrees range in the temperature both day and night. “While another member of the expedition, Mr Buddie, was blowing specimen eggs a.t the edge of the lar/oon he was attacked by a tour-foot sea eel. He scrambled to salety. “The Americans have commenced eclipse drill. The New Zealanders will start to-morrow. We are unable to sleep o to rats and hermit crabs, borne of the Americans are sleeping on the workshop roof.”
