WOOL PUBLICITY.

POST ON SECRETARIAT. DOMINION APPOINTMENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 4. The appointment of Mr E. S. Arthur, of Dunedin, as New Zealand representative on the International Wool Publicity and Research Secretariat in London was announced by the chairman of the New Zealand Wool Publicity Committee, Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., at the conclusion this evening of a meeting of the committee at Parliament House,/ The committee met specially to deal with the applications for the position, and to interview the candidates selected for final consideration. Mr Arthur, who is to take up his new duties as soon as possible, is manager of the wool skins and produce export uepartment of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., at Dunedin. He is 36 years of age. The International Wool Publicity and Research Seciefiiriat is a tripartite organisation reprcsoutail.ve of New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Its establishment was decided upon at a conference representative of the woolgrowers of the three countries held in Australia about six months ago. Each country is to have one member on the secretariat, and their salaries and Conditions of appointments are the same.

Mr Arthur is 36 years of age. He was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School, which he attended from 1915 to 1918 inclusive/ and at Otago University, where ho was a student from 1919 to 1922. Passing his examinations in accountancy, Mr Arthur, was admitted as & member of the Is’ew Zealand Society of Accountants in 1922. Ho joined the firm of Dalguty and Co., Ltd., at Dunedin in 1918, and has been emnioyed bv that firm ever since. From 1921 to 1923 he attended wool mBuuction classes at. the Dunedin 1 echmcal College, as well as taking private instruction in wool classing. He has made a special study of wool from the selling and valuing side, as well as from that of breeding and manufacture. He has won the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society s CuiT for most points in open competition for wool judging. Air Arthur’s duties have brought him into close contact with buycis representing all countries, and be is thoroughly acquainted with the requirements of the trade. Mr Arthur was a Dunedin delegate to the conference in Wellington on the woolscouring subsidy scheme. He is on the committee of the Otago Agricultural and lastora! Society. He is a director of the firm of J. J. Arthur, Ltd., retail clothiers, Dunedin.
