WARSHIPS IN TROPICS
TEMPERING FIERCE HEAT. Air-conditioned battleships may cruise in North Australian waters when an Empire fleet is situated in the Pacific. Investigation has shown that warships in tropical zones like Singapore become almost uninhabitable, owing to the unending heat. The sun heats on the steel sides and decks all day and the nights bring little relief. Air-conditioning systems, it is considered, would be valuable on Australian ships also, as much of their servile is done in sub-tropical waters.
