RUGBY FOOTBALL.
(To the Editor.) Sir.—Regarding the notes on the Feilding-Palmerston North Old Boys match, which I contributed, it should not be necessary to refresh Mr Gleeson’s memory as to the two brilliant tries scored by Bowyer against Dannevirke Old Boys, also his fine try against Feilding Old Boys from the centre three-quarter position. Bowyer is not losing form; he is being played out of position, this being the unanimous opinion of able judges. The failure in the yellow inside backs in this game was plainly discerned at second five-eighth and centre threequarter positions, without making depreciatory remarks ns to the players concerned, and it is quite evident that Mr Gleeson pleads ignorance of this fact. It should be obvious to anyone with coaching capabilities that good flanks are wasted without good inside connections, this being mainly the cause of the indifferent
display given by the inside backs of the yellow team, possessing the finest senior material in the competition. No reference was made as to Mr Gleeson’s capabilities as a coach, practices, the manner in which the club is being managed, and the distribution of games to players. The writer is not interested in this direction, this being entirely Mr Gleeson’s concern. The notes supplied were unbiassed, indisputable lacts.—l am, etc., INTERESTED.
