OBITUARY.
MISS CHRISTINE CALLESEN
In the passing of Aliss Christine Gullesen, this district has lost one ot its early pioneers. Eldest daughter of the tale Air and Mrs H. Caliesen, she was born in Scheswig in 1806 and lived there until about six years old. Leaving his young wile and baby behind, Air H. Caliesen came to New Zealand to seek an opportunity ill a new land. Shortly aider coming out he bought a section of land at lvarere and when Aliss Caliesen was in heir sixth year she and her mother arrived at the new home, having sailed in the ship Halciona. Together with her family, the late Aliss Callesen endured all the hardships of pioneering life, but lived to see success. Since 1922 Aliss Caliesen had resided in Palmerston North. Although she had been in failing health for some years, her death came unexpectedly on June 1. Quiet, unassuming and lovable, Aliss Caliesen will be missed by a wide circle of friends and relatives. There are left to mourn her passing two sisters and a brother Airs B. M. Larsen, of Feilding, Aliss T. Caliesen of Wood Street, and Mr J, Caliesen, of Karere.
