PLUNKET SOCIETY
ANNUAL REPORT
The annual report o£ the Feilding branch of the Plunkct Society, to be submitted by fho president (Airs AlcCorkindale)_ states: ‘‘ln reviewing the year’s work, it is gratifying to note the increase in the number.of mothers who arc seeking help and advice front the society, both in town and country. The sub-branches are carrying out their responsibilities witii enthusiasm and efficiency, working in close co-operation with the parent branch. In June, Nurse Armstrong resigned on account of her approaching marriage. Nurse G. Thomas was appointed to fill the vacancy, and the work is progressing with equally good results. At the annual conference of the society the branch was represented by Airs V. J. Stitchbury (Fcilding) who also, by request, represented the Palmerston North branch, and Mrs T. A. Adams (Sanson). Wo are indebted to the Sanson sub-branch for defraying the expenses of one delegate, and also to the Palmerston North branch for sharing the expenses of our other delegate. As the maintenance and extension of. the work is dependent on the financial position of the branch, the committee used every available avenue to strengthen the position bv raising fund’s for both branch and building purposes. The task has been a heavy responsibility, hut the generous response has been most encouraging. The net results cl special efforts amount.to £124. For building funds, an appeal in the Press brought in handsome donation’s from all parts of the district. Sanson and Kiinbolton-Kiwilcx sub-branches and Ool.vton district combined with Fcilding ill holding a baby carnival, each committee entering a boy and a girl. The Kimbolton-Kiwitea children proved the winning pair, and the building fund received an additional £IBO. A recital arranged by two local musicians—Misses M. Garrett and N. Hausmann —also helped augment tlm funds, making a total for the vear of over £350. The public response to our appeals for help to carry on this evergrowing national work is acknowledged with gratitude. The branch has been strengthened by the formation of an associate committee of ladies, who organised the annual ball, one of (lie most successful social events of the season. Another innovation was the formation of a. I’lunkct Mothers’ Club, with the object of establishing closer contact between committee, nurse and parents. Nurse Thomson has arranged a series of health talks for mothers. During the year two committee members, Mesdanics .f. Devino and S. Sicvers, resigned owning to their departure from the district, and four members, Mesdanics P. G. Stevens, It. Lourie, C. Bailey and Aliss Miller, arc retiring on account of pressure of other | duties. Other valued members who have left | the district are Mr C. S. Jeffs and Dr. and j Mrs Phillips. The committee desires to j place on record appreciation of the willing assistance given by these members. If, is with deep regret the death is recorded of Airs R. L. Langdon, a vice-president for | several years, and of Air F. H. Stoekwell, ' a member of the advisory board. Thanks are accordod all who have help 'd the branch. The Plimket nurse (Aliss G. Our afternoon tea at the ‘Asters’ realised a record stun, and our thanks are again due to Air and Airs D. Young for their kindness in allowing us (he use of their gardens. During the year wo. joined in the Fcilding building fund carnival and had th. 3 honour of placing our candidates at the head of the }ioll. We were sorry to lose the services of Aliss Armstrong as our Plunkct nurse, but we feel that, wo have not lost her since she is living ill the district. Our thanks are due to all who have willingly helped during the year.” The Sanson sub-branch report states: — “During last winter we joined with the parent branch ill the running of a baby carnival. The response from the district was most gratifying, and the splendid sum of £46 2s lid Was handed over. In this connection I wish to extend my thanks to Airs Collier. Airs Porrett and Airs Scott for their generous help, and to my committee for the willing manner in which they provided suppers for the various parties held. Wo greatly regret losing Airs Bond from our committee after nine years of useful work.
