EXTRACTS FROAI “STANDARD.” JUNE 5, 1907. The boom in Christchurch prior to and during the exhibition had given way following tho big fixture, lo a very real depression. “For Sale” and “To_ Let” notices were posted round the city in hundreds. The Manawatu Gorge had been blocked by a slip and tbo County Council was calling tenders by advertisement for tho clearing of it. When a number of cyclists had appeared before the Court charged with riding on the footpaths, tho majority of the cases were dismissed. Since the beginning of the year 199,773 ounces of gold had been exported from New Zealand valued nt £800,489.
