TRIPLE SMASH
COLLISION AT AUCKLAND. FOUR PERSONS INJURED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 11. Four adults were injured when three motor-cars, carrying nine people, were involved in a collision at the corner of the Great South Road and Panmure Road on Saturday afternoon. All tho injured were the occupants of one of the vehicles, a small sedan. A baby in arms in tho same cars was uninjured. Two of the injured persons were admitted to hospital. They were: Mrs Ada Blockley, of Otahuhu, concussion and other injuries; condition fairly serious. Mr Georgo Blockley. of Otahuhu, shoulder injuries, condition not serious. After treatment at the casualty ward Air and Mrs Mann, of Otahuhu, were able to proceed home. The accident occurred when a large sedan motor-car, travelling along the Great South Road in the direction of Auckland, was crossing the road to enter a service station on the corner of Panmure Road. Another large sedan car, travelling south toward Penrose, struck the back of the first vehicle, glanced off to the right hand side of the road, and was involved in a violent collision wtih a small sedan. Both front wheels of the smaller car were buckled, tho mudguards were twisted, and the engine and bonnet driven back along the chassis. MOTOR-CYCLIST’S DEATH. LEG ARTERY SEVERED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 11. AVlien his motor-cycle collided with a motor-ear as it was turning into the Great South Road, AValter John Lucas, of Ponsonby, severed ail artery in his left leg and be died from the injury in the Auckland Hospital to-night. Mr Lucas was single, aged 34, and was caretaker of the Sacred Heart Church, Ponsonby. He was formerly a trum conductor. A volunteer transport assistant to the St. John Ambulance held a tourniquet until the ambulance arrived from the city, and also in the ambulance while it was driven to hospital, where lie gave further assistance. The ambulance driver. Air Hugh Ryan, also donated blood at the hospital for transfusion to the patient, who had suffered much loss ot blood. HUTT ROAD MISHAP. SMALL CAR OVERTURNS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 14. Four occupants of a baby car ■which turned upside down on the Hutt Road this evening escaped without serious injury. The road was littered with glass, but tbe only injury was a few minor outs suffered by the driver, Alichael Henry Fitzgibbon. of Wellington. There , were three women passengers. The accident, which happened at the height of the citywards rush, is attributed to defective steering gear locking and causing the car to swerve and capsize.
