HOSPITAL CONTROL.
SITUATION IN SOUTH. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, April 9. Opposition to the recommendation of the Commissioner, Mr W. H. Freeman S.M., appointed by the Minister of Health to conduct an inquiry into the question of the amalgamation olthe Southland and Wallace hospita districts that they he reconstituted to form one hospital district, was expressed by a public meeting held at Riverton. The main speaker was Hon. Adam Hamilton (Leader ol the Opposition) who discussed centra lisation in some detail, and emphasised that two points which could have justified amalgamation, saving m administration costs and justifiable criticism of treatment of patients m the Wallace Hospital, had both been definitely rejected by the commissioner. He and other speakers contended that the recommendation was against the weight of evidence and that such a question should not he dealt with arbitrarily, hut should rc, st on a c decision of ratepayers and residents or the tlis--11 'a motion to that effect was declared carried unanimously. It expressed also the meeting’s hearty support im a petition being prepared lor submission to Parliament.
