JAPANESE REACH CROYDON. TOKIO-BARIS RECORD. FAAIOUS FLIERS’ TRIBUTES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received April 10, 10.55 a.m. LONDON, April 9. The Japanese aeroplane Divine AViud completed its flight from Tokio in 94 hours 18 minutes. The airmen received a tumultuous welcome. The Secretary for Air (Sir Philip Sassoon) sent a message on uchalf of jprrtish aviation, congratulating the niers on their splendid record. Scott, says: Our Loiidou-Aieibourne liiglit is incomparable with tins marvellous enort, which shows wnat commercial aviation will achieve in the luture.
Flying-Officer D. Lliewcliyn declares: Japan lias been catapulted to the very trout ol world aviation.
The Divine Wind lett Le Bourgot at 2.15 p.m. and arrived at Croydon at J. 30.
At Rome it was escorted by Italian Air Force ’planes and was tumultuously welcomed. Italian-Japauese Hags were entwined everywhere.
FRIENDLY SPIRIT. OFFICIAL CONGRATULATIONS. (British Official f ireless.) Received April 10, 11.47 a.m. RUGBY, April 9. The pilots of the ’plane Divine Wind, Messrs linuma and Tsukagoshi, completed the flight ot 10,000 miles in 3 days 22 hours 10 minutes. They were cheered by a large crowd and greeted by the Japanese Ambassador, Lord Sempill and Commander Perrin of the Royal Aero Club, and the Director of Overseas Aviation. The message from Sir Philip Sassoon states: "It is a pleasure to welcome you here oil behalf of British aviation and to congratulate you on the splendid record you have established. We all appreciate the friendly spiirit in which you set out from 'iokio to visit us, and are glad you have reached us safely and with great success.” When the fliers reached Le Bourget they had nearly halved the previous record for the flight between Paris and Tokio. Flights from the Ear East to Europe have been fewer than those in the reverse direction. The Post Office has made arrangements for the Japanese fliers to broadcast to Japan. In 1932 C. W. A. Scott flew from England to Australia in 8 days 20 hours 44 minutes. With the late T. Campbell Black he won the Mildenliall to Melbourne air race in 1934 in 2 days 22 hours 58 minutes. LINDBERGHS HOME AGAIN. Received April 10. 10.55 a.m. LONDON, April 9. Colonel and Mrs Charles Lindbergh arrived to-day at the new Gatwick airport on their return flight from India.
