MR ERNEST SIMPSON.
SLANDER ACTION DELAYED. Received April 10, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, April 9. The Central News Agency says that Mr Ernest Simpson’s lawsuit lor alleged slander against Mrs Joan Sutherland, of Connaught Square, London, the wife of Lieutemuit-C oloiiel A. Ji. C.Sutherland, has been struck out ol the list of special jury cases lor hear ing in the current law term. fhe suit has been marked “remanent, meaning that it is lett over and may bo restored to the list for the next term.
Mr Simpson's action resulted from a remark which was alleged to have been made by Mrs Sutherland and overheard byMr Simplon's sister, Mrs Peter Ken Smiley, at a London luncheon party, as folows“Mr Simpson was well paid loi permitting the divorce io go through. This divorce, granted against Mr Simpson on the only permissible grounds, those of misconduct, will bo moved absoluto on Apul 27. Mrs Sutherland, who before her marriage was Miss Joan McKcchnie, is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs George MeKeetmie, of Pelham Crescent, London. Her mother is a daughter of Captain Brooke Greville, a kinsman of the karl ot \\ arwielc and Lord Greville. Lieutenant-Go onol Sutherland is the only child of his father s first marriage, to Nellie Gcorgiana, daughter of Lieutenant-General Sir John PlumpIre Carr-Glyn, who died in 1891. In 1904 Sir George Sutherland married Arabella Eizabeth, third daughter of the late Lieu-tenant-General Sir Janies Wolfe-Murray of Cringlctie. Sir. George owns the properties of North Slipperficd and Medwynhcad, both in the parish of West Linton. He lives in Upper Brook Street, Mayfair, Lon don and also at Cringletio, three miles from Peebles. 11c is a Deputy Lieutenant. Justice of the Peace, and Commissioner of Supply for Peebles-shirc.
