FEWER BANKRUPTCIES.

ANNUAL RETURNS. A steady decline in the number of bankruptcy petitions filed at Palmerston Nortji has been evident over tlie past three financial years. In the 12 months period closing to-day 11 petitions were filed. 17 in 1935-36, and 19 in 1934-35, with a similar number in the year previous to that. In the quarter ended to-day there was only one petition filed, whereas in the corresponding three months of last year there were seven.
