SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.
CITY BAND DANCE
The City Band provided additional entertainment recently by means of a joy night. The public appreciated the action and many visitors attendedAs the evening progressed the dancers were provided with streamers, whistles and masks, which gave great enjoyment. The novelties were won as follow : First Gay Gordons, Mrs McNaughton and Mr Hill; second Gay Gordons, Mr Brown (Wellington) and Miss Schultz; first Monte Carlo, Mr Garrod (Wellington) and Miss Brightwell; second Monte Carlo, Mr Johnson and Miss Snow; lucky door, Miss Garvie and Mr Findlay; novelty, Miss McKay; extra, Mr Bainbridge. Mr Bromley carried out the duties of M.C. WEST END DANCE. The fortnightly dance held by the West End School Committee drew the usual good attendance, last night. Mr W. Collins was M.C. Bright music for old-time numbers kept the dancers in a happy frame of mind, and supper was served by the ladies’ committee. Prizewinners were Mr J. Bainbridge and Miss Newman (Gay Gordons), and Mr Ward and Miss Walker (Monte Carlo). An extra dance was played on the banjo by Mr B. Sutton, with Mr C. Cater accompanying him on the piano.
