STRANGLES CRITICISM.
PRESS CENSORSHIP IRKSOME. HITLER’S EDITOR’S OUTBURST. The iron discipline under which the German Press lias been working for four years, with every minor official empowered to say what shall or shall not be published, is beginning to evoke protests in the least-suspected quarters. Addressing the German Press Congress at Dessau, Captain Wilhelm Weiss made an amazingly frank outburst against the system of Nazi control in all newspaper offices. Captain Weiss is editor of Hitler’s own paper, the Voelkisclier Beobachter, published at Munich. He said: “The German Press must not reach the stage when newspapers will become accustomed to pubfishing matter entirely devoid of criticism and according to the directions laid daily on editors’ tables by the many and various Press departments. “There are too many Press chiefs in Germany. Much time is taken up in satisfying official and unofficial wishes that might be put to a better and more worthy use. The presses cannot he kept waiting until some official finally decides that .the speech of his lord .and master is ready after the sixth alteration.
