BOWLING TOURNEY
POST-SECTION PLAY. RAIN CAUSES DELAY. FIRST ROUND DECIDED. Owing to the condition of the Northern Club’s green after the heavy overnight rain, the start of post-section play in the Manawatu Bowling Centre s Easter rinks tournament was delayed for over two hours this morning. Arrangements had originally been made to start at 9 a.m., and this was altered to 10 a.m., but owing to the intervention again of rain, piay did not get under way until after 11 a.m. Even then the outlook was uncertain, and heavy rain fell just before the luncheon adjournment at 1 p.ni. Nineteen rinks qualified tor postsection play, and there were nine byes in the first round. Considering the weather, the rear green, on which play took place, stood up well, though naturally heavy. Play was restricted to 18 heads in each round, owing to the late start, and by the luncheon adjournment the first round had been completed, also one match in the second round, which was to be played on the front green. Sixteen rinks qualified for post-sec-tion play in the Marlborough Centre’s bowling tournament, which entered the fourth day this morning with the greens drying fast after overnight rain. ■ G. Smith’s unbeaten Picton rink preserved its record yesterday, finish ing with eight wins, one round being eliminated owing to the late start due to showers at night. The rinks participating in post-sec-tion play to-day are skipped by Smith (Pictonß wins), Webster (Newtown, 7 wins), Bond (Papanui), Ainger (Christchurch), Rabone (Palmerston North), Stone, Snelling (Seatoun), Gray (Shannon), A. R. Smith, Webster (Picton), Ranger, Mitchell, Elvy, Nicholas (Blenheim), Young, and Graham (Marlborough) six wins each. RABONE IN FINAL. Advice was received in Palmerston North to-dav that the rink skipped by C N. ltabo'ne, and comprising Reed, Parsons, Moxon and himself, won their game this morning. They were to play Young, of Marlborough, in the hna.l this afternoon.
