Mr E. McKenzie, one of the New Zealand Rugby selectors-, was a visitor to Palmerston North on Saturday to view the matches in the Spillane Cup tournament.
The death occurred suddenly on Thursday afternoon, at his home, “Dunkeld,” AVarrengate Line, AA'anganui, of Mr Duncan Mackintosh, chairman of the AVanganui County Council and president of the AVanganui Agricultural Association, aged 62. Mr T. R. AVright, manager of Messrs AVright, Stephenson and Company’s AVanganui branch, has been appointed to open a branch lor the firm in Melbourne. He is to be succeeded, in AVanganui by Mr S. Sievers, manager of the Eeilding branch of Messrs Abraham and AVilliams. Ltd. The many friends of Mr George Anderson Luoni, licensee of the Royal Hotel, Palmerston North, will regret to learn of his death, which occurred yesterday. Air Luoni, who was a returned soldier, was well known in racing circles and his death will be regretted by a wide circle of friends.
Presentations to Detective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejohn, who has been transferred to Palmerston North and commenced his duties at this centre on. Saturday, were made lust week by members of the detective division and by the Auckland branch of the Police Association. Many tributes to his personal qualities and his ability were paid by his associates, who said they regretted his leaving the district. Inspector R. R. J. AN ard, on behalf of the detective division, presented Air Meiklejohn with a dinner set, and in so doing said he had distinguished himself as a hard-working, energetic officer. Alembers of the local branch of the Police Association assembled to b-d Air Aleiklejohn farewell, and to present him with a canteen of cutlery and a barometer.
