BOWLING

EASTER TOURNAMENT. SECOND DAY’S PLAY'. Except for light drizzling rain which fell towards the close of the day’s play, which did not terminate until nightfall, conditions were favourable for the second day of section in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s Easter rinks tournament, on .Saturday, and the greens were standing up well when the sixth round was concluded. llinks which had no defeats recorded against them were those skipped by King (Manawatu), Mattar (Foxton) and Naylor (Thorudon). E. Bissell. skip of the Kia Toa rink from Hastings, had the misfortune to be taken suddenly ill on the Northern green during the fifth round. .His No. 3 took over the skip's position, and the vacancy in the rink was filled by a Heretaupga player who happened to be on the bank. Other rinks which came through the first two days of section play with only one loss were those skipped by Tantrum (Takaro), E. Anderson (Terrace End), J. K. Paton (Palmerston North), Casey (Thorndon) and Gibberd (Manawatu). Six wins out of nine games are sufficient to quality tor post-section play to-morrow. Paton was unlucky, not to have six wins, being beaten by a single on an extra head in his sixth round game with Hicks (Oroua). Close finishes were frequent, quite a number of games being decided on an extra head, and in several cases the calipers decided the issue between a win and a loss. .
