RANGIWAHIA SKI CLUB

SECOND ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual meeting of the Rangiwahia Ski Club was held on Monday in Feilding. Mr D. Macpherson presided over a good attendance. Mr Maepherson said he was pleased to see such a good attendance, and expressed his hope that the coming season would prove a successful one and that conditions would be suitable for ski-ing. The club enjoyed a membership of 66 financial members, and there were prospects of that number being increased considerably this year. Touching on the finances of the club, Mr Maepherson said that there was a credit balance of £4 14s 6d in the Post Office account, which he considered was very satisfactory in view of the small subscription fees Charged. A donation of flooring material for the club’s hut had been received and was greatly appreciated. The hut was insured for £l2O. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr D. T. Couper; president, Mr D. Maepherson; vice-presidents, Messrs D. Younger (Feilding), R. McCrae, F. Heise (Mangaweka), R. Deroles, L. Pettigrew (Rangiwahia), A. Fuller, G. C. Petersen (Palmerston North), M. Levison (Taihape), and Mr Cope; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Hamilton (Mangaweka); club captain, Mr F. Heise; auditor, Mr A. Moss (Mangaweka): management committee, Mrs Heise, Misses Maepherson, Williams, J. Hayward, Messrs 0. Hayward, J. Penney, G. McDonald, junr., and N. Major. The president and Mr Heise both paid tribute to the excellent work of the retiring secretary (Mr L. Pettigrew), who had worked particularly well to establish the club on a sound footing. Other members concurred. The president intimated that he would donate a cup for club competition this year, and the vice-presi-dents also stated that they would provide another cup. Regarding a question pertaining to the arranging of transport for trips to the ski-ing ground, members present from Palmerston North said that last year it had sometimes been found difficult to make up a party of 21 members, and the cost per member was fairly high. It was decided that the arranging of trips next season be left to Palmerston North members to organise.

The president reported that endeavours had been made to have the road to the ski-ing ground improved, and that the Tourist Department and the Public Works Department had been approached with a view to securing assistance. Mr Maepherson stated that the club would be satisfied if it could get a 3ft. walking track made to the grounds. Mr Fuller’s suggestion, that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that the member for the district be approached with a view to getting suitable access to the ski-ing ground, was carried. It was stated that there had been three heavy falls of snow at Rangiwahia during the past fortnight. Mr Maepherson, in returning thanks to members for re-electing him president, said that he was only too pleased to assist the club in any way possible, and that he would do all'ii} his power to further the progress and success of the club.
