FALL DOWN CLIFF.
MAORI SEVERELY HURT. KAITAIA, Feb. 22. A Maori, Arthur Rata, met with a severe accident while climbing up k steep, cliff near Parenga Heads He was seeking a position to spy out shoals of fish, which a party °f natives were intending to net, when he, slipped and fell some oWt on to the beach, fortunately on to a sandy spot, otherwise his injuries would most likely huvo proved fatal. • At ft was, he received severe lacerationsr to his arms and face, and was unconscious when picked up. • Mr ltata’s fall was not noticed immediately by his companions, and he lay some time before being rescued, he tide being almost up to where he hy when he was discovered He was taken to the Kaitaia Hospital, nearly hand° were so serious that the hand Hom above the wrist had to be amputated.
