(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON. Fob. 17. At the .Magistrate’s Court, beloro -Mr J. H. Salmon, a.,vt., Frederick It. C. Wader, tanner, ol Himaiangi, was charged on February 16, while m a state ot intoxication, lie was in churge ol a motor car on the Foxloxi-Jtiimutangi highway, and with driving a motor vonic.o white not being the holder of a driver's license. Accused, who was represented by -Mr Cordon, pleaded guilty. Constable W'. It. -Miller said ho warned accused about driving his car. At 7 p.m. the same day lie tound accused driving his car on the FoxtoiMliinainugi highway, rio was then in an intoxicated condition. Ho hud no driver’s license. Counsel, in. making a plea lor leniency, said accused was prepared to give an undertaking not to drive a car m iuture and lie would agree to a prohibition order. Accused was lined £53, in default two months’ imprisonment and prohibited from obtaining a driver’s license belore February 17, lbsO. At the Magistrate's Court, before Mr J. H. balloon, S.M., G. E. Rarber was charged with discharging a fiicarin on a public road on February 10. Constable Miller suid defendant was on his way to his larm at 6.i0 a.m. and seeing a rabbit in a paddock iired at it. He failed to see Hans Jacobsen milking a cow in the line of tire. Jacobsen ulieged that some of thu pellets hit the rear ol the cow, and others rattled on the roof. A lino of £1 was imposed. 1-ast evening there was a large und representative attendance at the Masonic Hall to bid farewell to Mr John Hoss, on the eve of bis departure for Morrinsvillo. The Mayor (Mr M. E. Porrcau) presided and expressed regret that -Mrs Hoss was unable to be present, explaining that she bad left Foxton unexpectedly the previous evening owing to sickness in the family. Mr Perreau tendered a number of apologies and good wishes. At a suitable juueturo the Mayor asked Mr Koss lo accept a cheque as a small token of tlie esteem in which both ho and Mrs Hoss are held locally. He expressed regret at their departure from Foxton after a residence of just over 28 years. During the whole of that time, said Mr i’erreau, bolli -Mr and Mrs Hoss had proved themselves truo citizens, imbued with the oho idea ot making the town in which they lived a better pluce, and striving at every opportunity to assist their fellow men. Tributes were paid to Mr and .Mrs Hoss for their services oil numerous organisations by the Mayor, Mr \Y. E. Harbor (chairman of the Manawatu County Council and member of die Foxton Harbour Hoard), Mr \V. It. McKenzie (chairman of the Foxton District High School Committee) Mr \V. Trueman, for tho Foxton Howling Club, Mr F. Hobinson for tho Hcrough Council, and. Mr G. F. Smith for tlie Chamber of Commerce. Mr Hoss sincerely thanked tho speakers for their remarks and tho citizens tor their gift. “Anything wo have done during our residence in Foxton,’’ said Mr Hoss, “lias only been what any citizen should have done.” Mr Hoss referred to bis association with various local bodies, all of which had given him pleasure, and made a strong appeal to the citizens for support for the Scout movemen.

FOXTON, Feb. 18. Mr S. I. Walden resumed duty at the Post Office yesterday after being absent on annual leave. Mr K. Maidens has resumed duty at the Hank of New Zealand after spending a holiday at Napier. Mrs J. Hoss left Foxton unexpectedly on Monday as a result of tho sudden illness of her daughter at Morrinsvillo. Mr Hoss leaves at die week-end' to take up his residence there.

At tho monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., Charles Fleac, charged with being found on licensed premises in breach cf his prohibition order, was fined £l. Sydney Harris, charged with procuring intoxicating liquor while prohibited and with a breach of his prohibition order, was lined £1 on each charge. >i. IV. Alexander and G. M. Newton, charged wild being found illegally on -licensed premises, were each fined £2. E. F. Davey, D. C. Cowdrey and A. S. Dench, charged with being found illegally on licensed premises, entered a pica of guilty, through Mr Gordon, their counsel, who said they had not gone to the liotcl for liquor. 'They' were farmers at Oroua Downs and Cowdrey and Davey were mombers of a football club and sports body of which the licensee of tho hotel is patron. They went to the hotol to sco him in connection with football business and Dench to see a horso trainer, but both were out and they left tiio premises. They had not been thirty seconds in the building. 'The Magistrate: I must bo consistent in these cases. Where men go on to licensed premises after hours they not invariably get the licensee into trouble. Fines of £2 were imposed in each ease. A. L. Edwards, plumber, of Shannon, proceeded against S. R. Silk, farm manager for the recovery of £l3 4s 6d. Counsel for defendant said that only £lO 10s of tho account was disputed, that being for two vats supplied to defendant which were alleged to he unsatisfactory. After hearing the evidence tho Magistrate entered judgment for plaintiff for £l3 4s 6d with costs £6 Is. Hulda Skogstad proceeded against Edward Cookery for tho recovery of £4 17s 6d, damage allegedly done to a stove in a collage at Manawatu Heads belonging to plaintiff during occupancy by defendant. In evidence plaintiff said she let her cottage to defendant last year for five weeks. On making an inspection later sho found her stove had been lifted outsido and during his occupancy defendant had used his own stovo. Hers was left just inside the door and was in a broken and rusty state and useless, she alleged. Defendant paid he had been granted permission to remove tho stove because it smoked too much. The Magistrate gave judgment for £4 with costs £2 11s.
