SLOOP’S MOVEMENTS.

MINISTER RETICENT. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. A report that H.M.S. Leith was now in the Southern Pacific on a special mission was referred to the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones). He declined to comment on an unofficial suggestion that the vessel was visiting various Pacific islands which, though isolated, may become of real value when the Pacific aviation routes become a reality. “The Leith is under the control of the Admiralty,” stated the Minister, “and I, consequently, am not in a position to make any comment on suggestions published regarding her Pacific cruise.”
