RAIN DEVELOPING

The anti-cyclone mentioned yesterday still lies across northern New Zealand. A shallow westerly depression is advancing from the Tasman Sea on to the South Island, but has so far had little influence on the weather. A fresh anti-cyclone is moving on to the western Tasman Sea. Forecast: Aloderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds, changing to southerlies after about 24 hours. AVeather: Fine at first, but clouding over later, and some isolated rains probable. Seas, rather rough to rough. tiritea. Records of the rainfall at Tiritea during January by Mr P. C. Toms are as follow :—2nd, .03in ; sth, .55; 7th, .05; 9th, .65; 10th, .20; lltli, .06; 15th, .80; 16th, .30; 17th, .15; 19th, .16; 21st, .45; 22nd, .04; 23rd, .06; 24th, .03; 2oth, .02; total, 3.55 in. Rain fell on 15 days, the mnximum daily fall being .80 on the 15 th. RIVER GAUGE AT PALAIERSTON NORTH. Noon. —2ft.
