OBITUARY.
MRS GEO. KIRTON. One of the oldest and best known residents of Feilding passed away, following a sliort illness, pn January 24, in the person of Mrs Geo. ICirton, of 46 Derby Street. Mrs Kirton was in liea- 80th year and was born near Takaka, in the Nelson district, where she received her education. She came to Feilding when she was 25 years of age and later was married to the late Mr Geo. Kirton, who predeceased her 21 years ago. Mr Kirton was associated with the Feilding Star in its earliest history, and with Mr Curtis he was part proprietor of that journal. Prior to his connection with the Star, Mr Kirton was stationmastcr at Feilding for many years. The late Mrs Kirton was, until 18
years ago, an enthusiastic pedigree Jersey cattle breeder, and in that connection was widely known, and enjoyed a high reputation, for her cattle were of the highest quality and her herd was one of the first pedigree Jersey cattle herds in this district. In addition to her dairying activities, Mrs Kirton was an enthusiastic gardener, an interest which she maintained right up until her recent illness. Her garden was always a picture of beauty. A week before her death Mrs Kirton’s brother died at the age of 91 years, while her four sisters, Mrs Caldwell (AwHhuri), Mrs Jennins (Taranaki), Miss Washburn (Feilding), and Mrs A. Dernier (Feilding;, ail predeceased her. Mrs Kirton leaves a family of two daughters, Mrs G. Gibbons (Taumarunui) and Mrs D. H. Mclnness (Feilding). Another daughter died a few years ago. The funeral took place at Feilding on Monday afternoon, Rev. Archdeacon Petrie conducting the service, which was of a private nature.
