Mr W. G. Bishop has resigned from the Levin Borougn Council and Mr C. L. Hunter, ALP., has been nominated to fill the vacancy. In continuance of his policy* of familiarising himself with all railway lines in New Zealand, the Alinister of Railways (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) is making his first official visit to Marlborough. Other Alinisters visiting the district are the Attorney-General (Hon. H. G. It. Alason), Hon. It. Semple (Minister of Public Works) and Hon. P. Webb (Alinister of Alines). Air C. Louissou, president of the Alanawatu Racing Club, and Airs Louisson, were visitors to the Wanganui races yesterday, Air Louissou being a guest at the luncheon tendered by the stewards to His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Galway. Air J. Caird, late postmaster of Taihape, who has now retired oil superannuation, is taking up his residence at Wanganui. Air Caird joined the service in Palmerston North and was a former resident of Terrace End. Air Caird received a presentation from the Taihape Bowling Club, and Mr and Airs Caird were also the recipients ot tokens of esteem from various friends and institutions. A. F. McAlurtrie, AX.A., F.R.E.S., senior inspector to the Wanganui Education Board, who has been promoted to Wellington to occupy the position of assistant to the Chiet Inspector of Schools for the Dominion, was farewelled by 1 members of the board at a dinner in Wanganui last night. Air E. F. Hemingway, who presided, asked Air McAlurtrie to accept a handsome chiming clock, mounted in oak, as a token of appreciation from the members. Others who spoke and paid tributes to Air AlcMurtrie were Alessrs AI. H. Oram, R. Dukeson, P. Alunro, AV. T. Benefield, J. Batchelar, Colonel, J. H. AVliyte, and Air G. N. Boulton (secretary). Air McAlurtrie, in replying, said that during the three and-lialf years he had been in the AVanganui district he had spent the best time of his career. Apologies for absence and written tributes to the guest were also conveyed front Messrs J. K. Hornblow and A. S. Coleman, board members, and Air E. R. Hodge, architect. Air AV. J. Boden, of Nelson, has been appointed senior inspector to the Wanganui Education Board.
