WANGANUI RACES.

MASTER CYKLON WINS CUP. SPRINT TO LA VINA. GOOD TOTALISATOR INCREASE. (By “Moturoa.”) The Wanganui Jockey Chib’s summer meeting opened in brilliant weather with a very large attendance and speculation throughout the day was keen, the totalizator handling £11,997 compared with £8047 last year, an increase of £3950. The gates wore higher to a corresponding extent and so the meeting was ushered in very successfully. Form was fairly good to follow throughout tho day, and the handy-sized field.? provided keen racing on a track which was in perfect order. Master Cyklon, who was unlucky in the Ashhurst Cup, won the time-honoured Wanganui Cup very decisively, in record time for the distance. Hastings stables provided the, second leg of the double in Lavina, who scored tho easiest win of the day. Both wore ridden by tho Hawko’s Bay horseman, P. Atkins. Two inquiries were instituted, the first, being into the weighing-in 21b light of Airing in the Victory Handicap, the stewards finding the occurrence accidental. Third place was then awarded to Reipar, who had been placed fourth. Intorfnrenco occurred in the Petrc Hack, tile main sufferers being Rustem and Sanhedrin, but tho stewards were satisfied with the explanation given. EASY FOR BEAU GALLANTE. Nothing, really stood a chance with Beau Gallanto in the Wesuncro Hurdles, but Court Anna might have mado things moro interesting had ho been sent along a little sooner. Beau Gallante was going comfortably in second placo behind Royal Routino in the early stages, but the Hunting Song gelding was shirking his task, attempting to run oif at every fence after tho first. Thomson then decided to keep out of trouble and wont up on the inside six furlongs from homo, Court Anna and Just An Idea being several lengths behind them. Court Anna improved iiis position turning for home, but was still under restraint into the straight and could not quite bridge the winning margin Beau Gahanto had over tho last hurdle. Court Anna is certain to improve with the race and looks moro solid than formerly. Just An Idea ran a greatly improved race on Alarton form, but Royal Routine has a lot to learn about jumping. AIWAI BEATS SCARF DANCE. Aiwai, tho Avondale Stakes winner, scored a very easy win in the- Juvenile Handicap. Little Robin was the only absentee. Aiwai began best in a straggling start, but was steadied in behind Airini around the turn and was not asked to gallop until well into the straight, where she came right away from Scarf Dance and Gaily, wlio finished strongly to boat Airini out of a place. Scarf Dance is on the upgrade, while Gaily improved out of ail knowledge oil her Stratford running. She is u shapely filly by Siogfried from Just vvbo was a halt-sister to Mireusonta. There was sorno money for Ripple (a half-sister to Superior), but she drew the ace and was chopped out at tho start. Lickem and Trim (a lialf-sister to Lowenberg) couglit the eye as likely sorts, 'they did not sliow up to any extent, but should sharpen up with the experience. TE BRONEY REAPPEARS. To Broney, a half-sister to that useful jumper Hard Gobi, anti to the sprinting niaro Te Money, has been racing unsuccasfully for several seasons, but she seems to havo improved since going into L. George’s caro at New Plymoutn and, having her first start from the stable, she won the Kni Ivvi Maiden rutlior easily. She was lucky, however, to heat Parakino, who was mentioned after Ashliurst as likely to improve with liis initial race there. All Happiness made tho running to ihe straight troin Parakino and Te Broney with the favourite Kia Toro being required to go around them, but when they straightened up Te Broney was left ill front to withstand challenges, from Parakino and Kia Tore. Parakino’s ciYort looked proinisin at tho distance, but his apprentice rider lost one of his reins and 1c Broney was given the opportunity lo draw out again to beat the tavourite Kia lore. Parakino must have won, but tor his rider s misfortune. TAITORU JUST GETS HOME. Tuitoru, favourito for tho Victory Hack Handicap, duly won, but bo just secured the verdict from lnlernationa-,, who ran very wide turning tor home. .Mister Qucx wus scratched. Tailurii began well and ran through to tile lead five and a half furlongs lrom home, entering the straight clear of Blue Alauritius (who had made the early running), Reipar, and International, too lastnamed having made u smart iu.i on the bend to cut off Red Sand, who lia.t boon galloping- in .the middle of the track uli tho way" 'J uiloru's rider seemed a trifle confident in the run home, but International had too much ground to make up und failed by the narrowest of margins. Airing, who had hud unything but a good run, just beat Reipar on the post for ttiird money, but the latter will nnji.ove more. (,’orowa. who is not a boy s horse, was noticed coming home very strong,y. HAT ILL A BEATS WhiftaO.

Great llope was an unimpressive fourth. Sanhedrin and Royal Minstrel, were seralehed. MASTER CYKI.ON STAYS O.Y. The detection of Musquil and Airing left a nice field of ten in tlio W unganui Cup and Olio Whotu (£439 10sJ was insiailod a staunch favourite over Grand Jury t£2ya, and isntail (±1267 10s), anything e-so being at a good price. Master Cykion, who was the unlucky runner m the Ashhurst Cup, showed that he was not lacking in class, for lie made the early running, dropped back at the five furlongs, and then came through with an irresisbb.c ran turning into the straight. Tic* was drawning away at the finish ill a fast run race, the final lime being encompassed in 1.39 2-5 and the last haif-mile in 49 J-ssce, while the 2.5 3-5 recorded tor the full distance is a course record, lie is a young, improving horse ol whom tlio best lias not yet been seen. Geitol ran up to her best, form and was responsible for a solid effort, but One Whetu, the favourite, was not over lucky in the running. Biue Garter made the pace in the middle stages, but ran about a lot in the straight, seriously interfering with Hunting Queen and One Whetu. Grand Jury looked a winner at tho foot of the straight, but did not run oh as well as lie did at Ashhurst. „ LAVINA IN FORM AGAIN. Lavina was unimpressive at Ashhurst last week, but this mare is a hardy sort and she improves with racing, her success in the. Flying Handicap being decisive, though tho favourite Royal Secret had to make up a lot of ground in tlio short straight and may do better to-morrow. Symcony showed a ton of pace to lead into tlio straight, but she closed up like a book in tlio run homo. Ned Cuttle put in a strong run in the straight and is likely to be heard of in open company before long, but Oil the day nothing stood a chance with Lavina, who began best and was then steadied in behind Symcony. Black Friar finished well, but looked in nood of a race.

FAVOURITES BEATEN. Imposturo, who created a favouirte impression when she won the two-year-old race at Wanganui twelve months ago, improved on her recent poor*form to win convincingely tho Petre Hack. She may now go on' with it, but Sanhedrin and Rustem were both unlucky in tho running, suffering from interference caused by All Spirit going across sharply at the half mile. < Collodion led early and then All Spirit was ’ rushed to the front Imposturo being in a good position all the way alongside Mister Quex until tho leaders compounded in the straight. She went to tho front below the distance and (lien went on to scoro easily. Collodion surprised by finishing on again under pressuro to heat All Spirit narrowly for second money. Sanhedrin made a bold bid to mako up the leeway and finished almost in lino with (lie minor-placed horses. Rustem was also putting in some good work in the concluding stages ancl lie may do better to-mor-row. RACING IN DETAIL. WESTMERE HACK lIURDES, of £130: second £ls, third £lO.
