VICTIM OF TORPEDO. AVITH VALUABLE CARGO. ATTEMPT TO SALVAGE MONGARA (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received January 26, 11.55 a.m. GENOA, Jan. 25. The salvage ship Artiglio has located the wreck of the British Steam Navigation Company’s vessel Mongara, which was torpedoed by a German submarine in the Straits of Messina on her way to London from Sydney on July '3, 1917. Her cargo, which was insured for £75,000, included 400 tons of copper, 500 tons of zinc, 200 tons of lead, and 1800 tons of steel.

The wreck lies at a depth of 1000 ft at a spot where currents make salvage very difficult.
