The salvage ship Artiglio has located the wreck of the British Steam Navigation Company’s vessel Mongara, which was torpedoed by a German submarine in the Straits of Messina on her way to London from Sydney on July '3, 1917. Her cargo, which was insured for £75,000, included 400 tons of copper, 500 tons of zinc, 200 tons of lead, and 1800 tons of steel.
The wreck lies at a depth of 1000 ft at a spot where currents make salvage very difficult.
