CORRESPONDENCE.
MT. EGMONT FATALITY.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—May I be permitted to correct a wrong impression of the recent fatality on Mount Egmont. which, exists in the minds of some people, and at the same time ask them to bf more charitable in their statements Some papers gave the impression that my nephews, Philip Matthews and Dick Valentine, left Dawson Falls lios tel with permission from those in charge to proceed to the summit and to spend the night there. Such wae not the case. The boys left to spend the night in the Syme Hut and it was not until they were installed there and until after Matthews had written several letters that he conceived the idea of going to the summit in order to take photographs at dawn. —I am, etc., GARTH G. WILLIAMS. Palmerston North, January 24, 193/.
