Steps were being taken to open a new road, known ns Greenhow’s Road, fo con nect the Ashhurst-Bunnythorpc and Kelvin Grove roads. The new road would bring Hiwinui within 7i miles of Palmerston North. Polo teams from Manawatu, Wanganui. Rangitikoi, Fern Flats, and Wc.lington were competing for Mr Martin ChaptnanV Cup in Wellington. A fire had caused some alarm at the Union Timber Company’s yards at the in tersection of Main Street and Victoria Street, Palmerston North. The payment of £45 an acre for land at Pungarchu, Taranaki, was instanced as r remarkable price. The Auckland A. and P. Association had decided to hold a winter show. Taximeters and sixpenny fares had been introduced in London.
