CARNARVON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, Dec. 29.

A wedding of local interest, the bridegroom being very wclflknown in hockey circles for a number of years, was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Church, Palmerston North, on December 19. Tho contracting parties ,wero Joseph Victor Wallis and Phyllis Emille Redwood, of Creenmeadows, Napier. Tho bride woro parchment allover lacc, a parchment tulle veil being held to the head with a band of gold. Gold shoes and a bouquet of deep cream shades wero tho finishing -touches to a very effective bridal ensemble. The matron of honour was Mrs Dudley Rcdward, who wore a rose-pink and white floral gown and a wreath of tiny pink rosebuds on her hair. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr G. R. McKenzie, of Carnarvon. A motor tour of tho North Island as their honeymoon, heforo settling in their now home in Napier, is being spent by Mr and Mrs Wallis. Tho following children of the local school have passed tho proficiency examination : John Luxford, who takes ‘the Barnett Memorial Cup for dux, Avis Teague, John Thomson, Jean Gennills, Patricia Quinlan, Kcnnoth Powell gained competency. When Mr A. Maxwell _ was returning from town on Boxing Night on his mo-tor-cyclc ho had the misfortune to collide with a cow and suffer a broken collarbone. Mr Harold Knight, of New Plymouth, is visiting Mr and Mrs P. Scott. Mr S. Hodge is spending Christmas week in Palmerston North and Shannon. Mrs Cockburn, of Sanson, spent tho week-end with her daughter, Mrs J. Scott. Mr and Mr* D. Rowe and family, of Huntcrville, and Mr and Mrs Russell, of Parewanui, aro staying with Mr and Mrs R. D. McKelvio. Mr J. McMurray is away at Whakarongo. ' An unusual sight for this locality is. a magnificent pohutukawa tree in full bloom in tho garden of Mr G. R. McKenzie.
