WIN FOR VICTORIA
MELBOURNE, Dec. 29
In the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales, Victoria, who in their first innings made 318, in their second innings made 308 for three wickets and declared (Rigg 167 not out, Hassett 71 not out). New South Wales, who made 252 in their first innings, had five wickets down for 213 in their second innings when play was stopped on account of rain (V. Jackson 88, M. Ward 08; Pearson two for 25, Fleet-wood-Smith two for 70). Victoria won on the first innings by G'o runs.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA WINS
ADELAIDE, Dec. 29
In the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, who made 294 and 267, Queensland, who in their first innings scored 205. in their second innings made 244 (R. Rodgers 113, Oxenham 48, Amos 34, Cotton four for 61, Grimmett two for 71, Williams two for 49). South Australia won outright by 112 runs.
LORD SOMERS IN AUSTRALIA
FREMANTLE, Dec. 29.
Passengers aboard the Mongolia, which has arrived from London, include Lord Somers, the president of the M.C.C., and a former Governor of Victoria, who is en route for the third Tost at Melbourne. He is most gratified that the first and second Tests were played in a cordial spirit.
