OBITUARY.

MR H. H. C. SIMMONS. Much sympathy will be extended to the immediate family and relatives of Mr Herbert Hamilton Coulls Simmons, of Mangawhata, who passed away yesterday- The late Mr Simmons, who had resided in the district since about 1900, was involved in an accident recently and suffered injuries which led to his passing despite the best of hospital care and attention.

Fifty-five years of age, the late Mr Simmons was born in Wellington, being the eldest son of the late Mr J. H. Simmons and Mrs S. J. Simmons, of 28 Ngata Street. He attended school at Thorndon and Mount Cook, and accompanied his parents to Mangawhata about 1900, when his father took up a section on the land being opened up lor closer settlement. When his father retired just before the War, the late Mr Simmons took over the holding and continued farming operations there until his death.

Always interested in Rugby football, in which he participated as a young man, Mr Simmons was a keen follower of the game and he took an active interest in its advancement. He had also an interest in sporting matters, and at one period owned Gold Problem, a galloper which was well known in this district from 1919 to 1923. Mr Simmons was a member of the Church of England, and was actively associated with the services held in the Mangawhata district. In the War years Mr Simmons was a member of the directorate of the Mangawhata Dairy Company.

Mr Simmons married Miss Theresa Veronica Alve, of ltangiotu, and there are left to mourn their loss, in addition to his widow, a family of one son and three daughters. Mr Harold Simmons (Mangawhata), Mrs Stanbra (Kaimai, Taurnnga), and Misses Myra and Elza Simmons (Mangawhata). Besides his mother, of Ngata Street, Mr Simmons also leaves three brothers, Messrs W. H. Simmons (Ngata Street), C. E. Sim. mons (Mangawhata), and L. R. Simmons (General Motors, Flint, Michigan, U.S.A.). The funeral will be held to-morrow.
