TOKOMARU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOAIARU, Dee. 17. A happy time was spent in the hall when a, gift evening was given in honour of Aliss Alargaret Gardner’s approaching wedding. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr Patrick, Air H. Barr, and Aliss Beachcump. Air J. Schwas? carried out tho ditties of AI.C. A Alonte Carlo waltz was won by Aliss Schwass and partner; statue waltz, Aliss D. Towler and partner; lucky Gay Gordons, Airs Ella and Air Beachcump. At a suitable juncture Air G. Williams asked Aliss Gardner to accept the numerous gifts her friends had brought. Air Beachcump returning thanks on behalf of his bride-to-be. A bouquet was also presented to Aliss Gardner by little Nocline I’arr, after which the couple wore accorded musical honours.

The Women’s Institute held a Christmas treat recently for all the local children. Many of the children wore fancy costumes and looked very charming. W'hat the children enjoyed most wore the numerous novelty dances, and the winners of these proved to he R. Waghorn and Terrance Kelly (Alonte Carlo), Connie Hills and V. Waghorn (Alonte Carlo), Doreen Penticost and Willie Ramage (lucky spot), Al. Atkinson and Robbie Waghorn (lucky spot), Violet Ramage and Willie Ramage (AJontc Carlo). All the children assembled later in the supper room, where they were treated to fruit salad and jellies, bags of lollies, and soft drinks. The adults then look tho floor for dancing. Alusic was supplied by Air H. Parr. A competition was won bv Air J. Kendrick. Valeric AlcNcill, Granny;. Ronnie Elliott, Red Indian; Eddie Elliott, Cowboy; Ivan Wilton, Pop-Eye; Norman Cook, Cowboy; Aloeroa Hewison. Ranee. Among the adults present were Aire L. Simpson, in brown floral crepe; Aliases 0. Cheer-, cheque organdie: E.- Corlctt, floral voile; Airs F. Gvde white silk; Alire D. Fowler, floral French’ crepe; Airs AlacXab, block crepe, Miss F. Gyde, blue satin; Mrs . N. Gunning, now marocain; Aliases At. Inggell, black crepe; N. Ennis, floral voile; I). Wilton, blue marocain; A Icsd nines B. Wilton, navy crepe-do-chine; Burt, black georgette; Anderson, floral crepe; Hay, brown silk. , ’l’hc euchre parts- held under tho auspices of the ladies’ tennis, committee resulted in Airs Bootc winning the ladies first prize and Airs H. Parr the men s. Mrs Ella and Airs. Penticost won tho consolation prizes. The Alothcrs’ Union hold their Decernher mooting in the hall. r I he speaker for the afternoon was Rev. \\. E. Bttrgm, of Foxton. who spoke on missionary- experiences in Africa. His address was veryinteresting, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded him. Afternoon tea was served by the hostess. Airs Anderson. Aire S. Anderson has returned home to‘ Christchurch after visiting relatives in Tokomaru. Airs AI. Corlctt has returned home after spending a week m Carterton Airs H. Waghorn has had to enter the Hospital to undergo an operation. Aliss E Fitches has returned home after spending a few days with her sister. Mrs It. Stokes. Airs Gydc. of New .Plymouth, has returned home after spending a holiday with her son. Air F. R. Gvde Air and Airs H. Penticost will shortly be leaving the district to reside at Pigeon Bay, South Island.
