TIRITEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIRITEA, Dec. 18

On a recent evening a large number of children, with their parents and friends, gathered in the Aokautcro Hall, the occasion being the annual Christ mas tree party given by the members of the Tiritea Women’s Institute. The tree looked very gay with presents and balloons. The programme '•oiimienceil with games for the children. Father Christmas arrived through a winnow, causing much cxcitcmunt. Besides receiving a present, each child was given ice-cream and sweets. Also on the tree was a present for Mrs Scott, of Aokautcro. Miss Sinclair (teacher) was presented with a beautiful pair of kid gloves from her pupils. Some very enjoyable items were given, as follow: Folk dances, the school cnildrcn; recitations, David Irons; soncs, Zola Toms; guitar solo, Desmond Coipman; dance, Tam Allen; mouth-organ solo, Laurie Taylor ; songs. Earle Andrews; hula dance in costume, Ellen Knowles, accompanied by Desmond Colpinan on tho guitar); recitation, Jim Jamieson; song, Joan Andrews. Popular dances wore those in costumes by Betty Waller and George Waller. Mr Pitcher accompanied them on the bagpipes. Mr Harkenburg, of Palmerston North, gave pleasure with humorous items. Mrs Andrews, president of the institute, asked the children to give cheers for Father Christmas before he took his departure and this they did most heartily. Tahirs were arranged at one side of the hall and laden with all kinds of good things and soft drinks for the children’s supper, and at each place was a paper hat. At the conelusion of the children’s programme, . Air G. Greer, chairman of the School Committee, thanked tho members of the Women’s Institute on behalf of the parents and children for tho enjoyable evening, and asked the children to give three cheers for them. Dancing was enjoyed by the adults until midnight, music being supttlied hv Mr A. Lawrence and Miss Grace Lawrence and Mr Pilcher. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Andctson (Aokautcro) and Air R. Andrews. Air J. G. Hasloch carried out the duties of AI.C. and Air J. Knowles was in charge at the door. ... • , Air and Airs B. Ktlsby were visitors to Alarton last evening, where they attended the eightieth birthday of Airs Ktlsby’s mother, Aim Whale, whose sons and daughters went homo for tho occasion. Several of her sisters also were present. Numerous presents and telegrams of good wishes were received.
