DRAMA OF THE SEA.

OLD WRECK RECALLED. *

Received December 19, 8.5 a.m

SYDNEY, Dec. 19. Tho story of the old shipwreck of the brig Fortune off the New Zealand coast in 1868 was recalled in the Equity Court at an inquiry into the nex(-of-kin of Thomas Petley, who died iri June leaving an estate valued at £9600.

During the evidence a faded cutting from a Sydney newspaper was tendered showing that Petley’s father, William, the master of the Fortune, was drowned with nine others, while the sole survivor furnished a thrilling narrative of the sea, explaining that “natives appropriated a box with some sovereigns from the captain’s chest.” The captain’s son, Thomas Petley, died intestate. The Court referred the matter to the Master in Equity.
