CARPENTERS’ AWARD.

FORTY-HOUR WEEK. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. IS. The carpenters’ award, issued by the Court of Arbitration to-day, provides for a 40-hour week, with a wage of 2s Old an hour for journeymen. The same hours are 11 fixed for country work. Ordinary overtime rates are time and a-half for the first four hours and double time thereafter. A 44-hour five and a-half day is fixed for carpenters employed by harbour boards, maintenance carpenters employed by freezing companies, and carpenters employed by hospital boards.
