Thousands of sugar cane workers and farmers staged a demonstration in front of the Capitol on behalf of Senor Batista’s nine cents a bag sugar tax Bill designed to produce two million dollars annually to support rural schools.

Following a break with the civil forces beaded by President Gomez, Senor Batista spoke over the radio urging support for his programme, resulting in the demonstration, with the united support of the newspapers.
